Hey, I'm Danielle Clough!

I'm a Cape Town-based artist with a soft spot for mixing the old with the new. My work nestles somewhere between craft, pop culture, and contemporary art, shaped by an early background in design and photography before I found my way to embroidery in my mid-20s.

Photography still shapes the way I work, especially in my use of colour, texture, and composition. Through thread, I create studies of flora, fauna, and portraiture, often working with unconventional materials like vintage fabric, retro rackets, and salvaged metals. My embroidery tends to land somewhere between nostalgic and experimental, with colour always taking centre stage.

I studied art direction and graphic design at The Red and Yellow School, which is where I learned that creativity has very few rules, and the ones that exist are mostly suggestions.

Alongside my studio practice, I’m passionate about making art feel accessible through online classes, mentorships, and travelling workshops. I love sharing the process behind my work and inviting people into a slower, more intentional way of making.

These days, I craft my little heart out from my studio in Cape Town, using thread as a medium for connection, storytelling, and joy.
